Farmer Rowe paced so much waiting for me to finish my last post that he's gone for his evening walk, so I've jumped on Bessy one last time to share.
You know how people talk of "Old Wives Tales", well I think at the ripe old age of 44, and with 21 years of marriage, I must now be an old Wive (or is that Wife???).
I had heard of this "treatment" for about a year, and with a very sick child I decided to try it out ...... and it seems to work. But when I told the young (very young) GP sitting across from me this morning, he looked at me as if I was a little weird (or maybe it was my fluey glazed over eyes just not seeing too clearly).
Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you. Laugh if you like, but IT DOES WORK.
When your child is coughing up a lung, grap a tissue, fold it into half and then half again, take a smear out of a Vicks container, grab one of their feet and gently massage it into the entire sole of their foot, take another smear of Vicks and repeat on the other foot.
I have had Jessica in my bed the last 3 nights and it seems to calm the coughing for about 3-4 hours, so I just repeat when the coughing distresses her too much.
I usually pop some more Vicks on the tissue and push it against her chest under her PJ top, for extra inhaling powers, it's pretty strong stuff, that's why I fold the tissue up into 4 layers so I don't end up with the smell on my fingers (chocolate doesn't taste the same when it's Vicks flavour).
Okay I can hear Farmer Rowe coming back from his walk, so I'll leave you with my "Old Wives Tale" hopefully we can start calling them "Scrummy Mummy Tales" before too long.
Here's to a sleepy night, not full of phlemy coughs ..... Hugs, Janet xxx

Janet, I have always done that with Vicks for my children and given others the same advise. This is the same if you have acupuncture for chest problems, they use the feet pressure points. The easiest way to describe it is the properties in the Vicks rub are more easily absorbed into these points and have a direct flow to the chest area. Its so much easier for children doing it this way especially young children as the Vicks' is far to strong and heavy in its formula to put directly onto the chest and it can burn the chest far too easily.

Janet, I haven't tried it myself, but I have heard about it, and if it works why not....
My FIL used to eat the stuff!!!!Weird...but he always said he made him feel better....we just all gagged when he did it!(I wouldn't recommend this method to ANYONE)
hope everyone is feeling better soon.
cheers Julz

It was actually the podiatrist who put us on to it - so does that give it some authority? Another great use for Vicks is insect bites - I have been using it for years, and I suffer badly from ant and wasp bites. Every home should have some !

I've heard of that too Janet from my Father-in-law whose from Germany and every time someone has a cold and cough he repeats the remedy again...Lol....bless him and I think it works too......My doc also thinks I am mad for suggesting it. FIL says it warms the feet...Lol.....Not sure but not game enough o not do it.....Hope you all feel better real soon.
Hugs
